We’ve been a big fan of Papa Murphy’s for years, used to carry an insulated bag when we were in Topeka or Wichita in order to bring home a few pies for the freezer. The one here in Emporia has had some glitches, to say the least, we’ve been sent home with the wrong crust at least twice and the wrong toppings once, but the last two or three we’ve had have been up to standards so hopefully they’re establishing a lasting pattern of quality. (It doesn’t hurt to give the pizza a good looking over BEFORE you leave.
It’s nice to be able to order exactly as you want it, myself I like about half the usual sauce that most pizza places use, so Papa is perfect for me. We also like the price. By the way, these pies are good in any oven but if you have one of those little Presto® pizza cookers, the kind that sort of look like a turntable, wow, it’s a perfect match!

A case of quantity over quality. I’ve never had french-fries there that we above room temperature. The servings are HUGE, but the attention to detail is nil. I actually heard a guy say as he was leaving, “It wasn’t the best steak I ever had, but man, I am FULL…” another happy camper.

Wow...too rich for my blood. Yes it was good, but at that price they should have come and picked us up and took us home again after dinner!

One of our longtime favorites with a great lunch special during the week for business types. Emporia is lucky to have two good Chinese restaurants (the other being House of Ma). Also fortunate is that the cooking style of these two places is fairly different. Shanghai also offers excellent carry out and delivery. The Kung-Pow dishes are served fiery, just as they should be… (”George likes his chicken SPICY!”)

Hmmm, not so authentic, lots of lettuce but very meager entrée. Our last meal here was served barely above room temperature. The best we can say is that we’ve had “spotty” results. Considering that beans and rice are the cheapest foods out there we’ve always wondered why many Mexican restaurants serve their regular-size portions on such huge plates. A modest entrée would be more acceptable with larger side dishes and the cost to the establishment would be negligible.

This is, hands down, one of the very best sandwiches available in Emporia...I'm a big eater and 1/2 of a sandwich + soup is more than enough. You can't get anything fresher that I know of.

Since when do the Emporia police write tickets just because something is “against the law”?
Every day on Commercial Street we watch people littering, which is against the law, and no one tickets them.
Every day we see people speed (considerably) on both Commercial and 6th, which is against the law, and no one tickets them.
Every day we watch people make u-turns in the middle of Commercial Street, which is against the law, and no one tickets them.
Everyday we hear people burning rubber on Commercial , which is against the law, and no one tickets them.
Every time it rains we see hundreds of people driving with their wipers on but with their headlights off, which is against the law, and no one tickets them.
All sources of vast amounts of lost revenue for the city and county coffers. But then I guess it’s easier to just raise taxes than to collect real money from scofflaws.
