Michael Ashford has been The Emporia Gazette's sports editor since July 31, 2006, where he covers Emporia High athletics as well as all the area high schools.
Michael came to The Gazette after graduating from Kansas State University's A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications in May 2006 with a bachelor's degree in print journalism. While at K-State, Michael worked for two years at the Kansas State Collegian, the student newspaper, as a sportswriter, sports editor and managing editor. His other experience includes a summer internship with the Salina Journal, a sports correspondents position with The Topeka Capital-Journal and an internship/freelance position with Powercat Illustrated magazine.
Michael lives in Emporia with his wife, Kimberly. He is originally from Bonner Springs, Kan., and was born in Manhattan, Kan. His parents, David and Marcia, still live in Bonner Springs. He has two sisters, Beth, 21, and Amy, 27. In his free time, Michael enjoys staying active by running, lifting weights and playing any and all types of sports. He also enjoys cooking watching movies. When he has free time, Michael continues to work on two novels he is writing, which he hopes to complete sometime soon.
