Bobbi Mlynar
Bobbi Mlynar is a reporter for The Gazette.
She began working part-time for the Gazette as a keypunch operator while attending the College of Emporia, when it was an accredited, private Presbyterian college. She was promoted supervisor of the keypunch/proofreading department and transferred to the newsroom, where she worked for many years as a reporter and later as city editor.
She resigned in 1994 to try other careers, but none of them fit as well as journalism. After a stint at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral home and at Didde Web Press and TFI in marketing/public relations, she has returned to reporting. Former Gazette Lifestyles Editor and reporter Lea Markowitz Ringler said that Bobbi is three days older than dirt.
In Bobbi’s off-hours, she enjoys the company of her husband, playing with her grandson Tanner, and her children and extended family. Bobbi also likes to play with her granddogs, paint -- houses, not canvasses -- install ceramic tile and perform other home remodeling chores. Hanging out with daughter Tammy’s family horses always brings pleasure and relaxation; when they’re not available, she uses the piano to express her moods. The hot tub is good, too. She plays for the Grace United Methodist Adult Sunday School classes and for First Friends Church, where she is a member.
She is a former board member and treasurer of the Emporia Friends of the Zoo, the Veterans’ Tribute Committee, the Human Relations Commission, ECHO Housing Board of Directors, and a current member of Sunrise Rotary Club. She volunteers to serve at Abundant Harvest through Sunrise and Friends Church and is a sucker for any cause involving children or animals.
Bobbi still remembers the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory over the Minnesota Vikings in January 1970, and has faith that the Chiefs will be in the playoffs this season. If not this season, then next year ...
