Crash kills Emporian

The driver of a pickup truck that crashed head-on into a semi-tractor trailer was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident about 11:50 p.m. Tuesday west of Emporia in Lyon County.
According to a report from the Lyon County Sheriff’s office, Octavio Alanis, 23, of Emporia died when the pickup truck he was driving westbound crossed the center line on U.S. Highway 50 and collided with the eastbound semi.
Emergency personnel who responded found the semi on fire in the south ditch.
The driver of the semi, Craig D. Burns, 45, of Postville, Iowa, was taken by ambulance to Newman Regional Health, where he was treated and released.
Sheriff’s deputies and Emporia-Lyon County fire and ambulance personnel were assisted by Emporia police officers.
Services for Alanis are pending at Charter Funeral Homes/Emporia Chapel.
