Emporia State softball wins MIAA Tourney title

Saturday, May 3, 2008

SHAWNEE -- The Emporia State softball team completed its sweep of the MIAA Tournament Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 victory over Central Missouri in 14 innings.

In a pitcher's duel between ESU's Samantha Sheeley and Central's Megan Leonard, it was Sheeley and the Hornets who came out on top. Sheeley went the distance for ESU, allowing just a single hit while recording a career-high 19 strikeouts.

Miranda Campbell provided the offensive lift for the Hornets, hitting a two-RBI double over the center fielder's head in the top of the 14th inning to give ESU a 2-0 lead, which would be all ESU would need. ESU went on to plate two more runs in the frame to pull away.
