Sunday fires ruled arson

Two separate outbuilding fires on Sunday have been ruled arson following investigation.

Emporia Fire Marshal Tom Andrews said this morning the first fire broke out at just after midnight Sunday at 1018 Rural St. A shed was allegedly set on fire and spread to a nearby garage. The shed is a total loss. The fire caused $1,000 damage to the building and $1,000 in contents.

Another fire was allegedly set at 228 Sylvan St. at 11:35 p.m. Sunday.

“This was an outbuilding or garage,” Andrews said.

The fire report shows that the garage was a total loss and damage is $3,000 to property and $7,000 to contents.

No more information is being released at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call the Emporia Police Department 343-4220 or Crime Stoppers at 342-CARE.
