A Lyon County Sheriff's deputy's suspicions turned a simple speeding ticket into a felony arrest on multiple drug charges.

Deputy Cory Doudican had pulled over a car for speeding in a work zone at Interstate Highway 35 mile marker 128, beneath the Industrial Road Bridge about 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

“I became suspicious of criminal activity and asked permission to search the car,” Doudican said.

The woman, Erika Reyes, 26, of Iowa, consented to the search, and Doudican deployed canine officer Tito, who searched the car and indicated the potential for drugs in the area of the spare tire.

“Located in the spare tire was 95 pounds of marijuana,” Doudican said.

Reyes was taken into custody for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, and having no drug-tax stamp.

The case will be forwarded to Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman for processing.

Reyes was driving a rental vehicle.
