Man shot in Emporia Wednesday night

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

One man was airlifted to a Wichita hospital tonight with a gunshot wound, Emporia police said.

Officers responded about 9:20 p.m. to a report of a disturbance and possible shooting in the 2500 block of Lincoln Street, Emporia Police Chief Gary Smith told The Gazette.

Once on the scene, officers found a domestic disturbance that turned into an alleged domestic assault. According to Smith, the victim is a man around 35 whose mother lives in the residence.

The 35-year-old was shot by a man in his late 50s or early 60s who lives in the residence.

Smith said a gun was fired multiple times but he had little information about how many gunshot wounds the victim might have, where he was shot or what his condition is.

No arrests have been made yet, Smith said, but officers are with the victim in the hospital as well as the man and woman who also were in the house when the shooting occurred.
