EHS theater department brings home honors
Friday, February 15, 2008
The Emporia High School Theatre Department participated in the State Thespian Conference in Wichita in January. Students attended a variety of workshops that ranged from Beginning Acting, Dance, Stage Fighting, Community Service Events and Singing Techniques. The troupe also had the opportunity to watch four main stage productions from high schools from all over the state. The Thespian Troupe also competed in several competitions, capturing second place with their lobby display out of an approximately 25 displays, according to Amanda Stice, theater director. The lobby display is intended to highlight a troupe’s involvement in their community and school. EHS has received first place in the lobby display competition for the past three years. Stice said the troupe also received the gold honor troupe classification, which is the highest classification a troupe can receive. Troupes must prove that they have reached this high level with their troupe book, which is then presented by a member of that troupe to judges at the state conference. This year’s EHS presenter was Kristen Garcia, senior. This week, the department is presenting the annual musical, which involves more than 100 EHS students. This year’s musical is Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” which will be performed at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $6 each and will be sold at the door. A character lunch will also be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at EHS. Tickets to the lunch are $5.
