Popeye’s Chicken on West Sixth Avenue has closed after little more than a year in business. The restaurant gave no reason for the closing.

One fast-food restaurant has closed its doors, and another is looking for a place to open in Emporia.

Spangle’s owners have searched for an appropriate location in Emporia for some time.

“We’re looking at several sites,” Spangle’s co-owner Dale Steven said Monday morning. “We have nothing signed, sealed or delivered at this point.”

Realtors have shown several sites to the Wichita-based corporation, and the company would like to see more.

Steven said Spangle’s long has wanted to have a restaurant in Emporia.

“We just haven’t found anything that works for us,” Steven said. “If someone has a good site for us, we’d certainly like to hear about it.”

On Monday morning, the marquee at Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuits notified the public it had closed.

A sign posted on the east and west doors read: “This location is closed. Please come visit us in Topeka, 3/08.”

The restaurant opened here in late December 2006 at the former KFC location, 1400 W. Sixth Ave.

Popeye’s management had not yet returned telephone calls for comment this morning.
