Flood warning issued for Lyon County

A flood warning has been issued for Lyon County after a large rain storm set in early this morning. Below is the statement by the National Weather Service.

AT 149 PM CDT...TRAINED SPOTTERS REPORTED THAT 2 TO 3 INCHES OF

RAIN HAS FALLEN OVER MUCH OF LYON COUNTY. DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED

THAT ANOTHER BAND OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING HEAVY

RAINFALL WAS MOVING INTO LYON COUNTY. LYON COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT

INDICATED THAT MINOR FLOODING WAS ALREADY ONGOING IN THE COUNTY.

ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINFALL WILL LIKELY CAUSE MORE FLOODING PROBLEMS.

HEAVY RAINFALL IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE IN LYON COUNTY THROUGH 330

PM. RUNOFF FROM EXCESSIVE RAINFALL MAY CONTINUE TO CAUSE FLOODING

PROBLEMS THROUGH THE EARLY EVENING HOURS.

THIS INCLUDES THE KANSAS TURNPIKE BETWEEN MILE MARKERS 117 AND 153.

THIS INCLUDES INTERSTATE 35 BETWEEN MILE MARKERS 128 AND 143.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL

CREEKS AND STREAMS...HIGHWAYS AND UNDERPASSES. ADDITIONALLY...COUNTRY

ROADS AND FARMLANDS ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS...STREAMS AND OTHER LOW

LYING AREAS ARE SUBJECT TO FLOODING.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE

ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS

SAFELY.
