If you have been holding back on helping out with the Peter Pan Park playground build this week because of lack of child care, you can just bring your children along.
Volunteer care providers will watch children while parents contribute to the build, which will start on Wednesday and run through Sunday. Hours for child care will be from 9 to 11 a.m. and 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday afternoon at the Lee Beran Recreation Center, 313 W. Fourth Ave., for children toilet-trained through 11 a.m.
Children 5 to 14 years old can come to the playground site and work in the children’s workforce tent, where they will have a chance to help with work that will contribute to the playground effort. They will not be allowed onto the playground while it is being built. The children’s workforce tent will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Children ages 11 to 14 can work on the playground itself as long as they are with an adult. Youth 15 to 17 years old can work on the playground without an adult but cannot use power tools.
Parents who are leaving their children at the recreation center are asked to bring a sack lunch for their child. Children working on the playground site can eat with other workers at the shelter.
All child care will be supervised by Girl Scout leaders or other individuals who have been screened to work with children.
The playground committee still needs volunteers to fill daytime slots. Call Robin at 342-1600 weekdays or Denise at 794-1622 evenings or over the weekend to sign up. The sign-up table at the park can be reached at 794-6749.
