Haunted houses, Flashlight Tour prepare the way for Halloween

Halloween is literally right around the corner and this weekend will provide lots of Halloween fun — and fright — in and around Emporia.
- As a part of the Madison Fall Fest, which runs all day Saturday, there will be a spook house at 7 p.m. at the Madison Depot.
- Gouls and goblins lurk around every corner of the Haunted Forest at Camp Alexander. The Haunted Forest runs from 8 p.m. to midnight tonight and Saturday.
- Settle in for a hay rack ride where monsters lurk along the way to the Neosho Rapids Haunted House tonight and Saturday, sponsored by the Neosho Rapids Lions Club. The event runs from 6 to 11 p.m. Meet at the Neosho Rapids Community Center, where tickets can be purchased. A hayrack ride will take participants to the haunted maze and the haunted house.
Flashlight tour
Grab your flashlights for the Sesquicentennial Edition of the flashlight tour which explores haunted Emporia. This event is sponsored by the William Allen White Community Partnership and the Emporia State University Educational Theatre Company.
The flashlight tour is a benefit for Emporia State University Theater, the Granada Theatre, the Lyon County Historical Society, Plumb Place and the William Allen White House State Historical Site. It will feature the talents of ESU’s Educational Theatre Company and the storytelling of S.C. Dixon, Rocky Slaymaker and LCHS staff. Tickets are limited and are $8 for adults; $5 for student/child and seniors over 60; and $20 for a group or family up to five.
Performances will begin at 6 p.m. and continue on the half hour with a 20 minute performance and a 10 minute transition time to the next site. Performances will be at 6 p.m.; 6:30 p.m.; 7 p.m.; 7:30 p.m.; 8 p.m.; 8:30 p.m.; 9 p.m.; 9:30 p.m.
Begin at your preferred time at any of the tour sites which include:
- Lyon County Historical “Night at the Museum,” 118 E. Sixth Ave.
- Plumb Place, 224 E. Sixth Ave. Will include a bonus reading of Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart” at 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. only.
- Friesen Performance Studio, Roosevelt Hall, ESU
- Emporia Granada Theatre, 807 Commercial St.
- William Allen White House State Historical Site, 927 Exchange St.
