Arts benefit; Plumb Place
Friday, November 30, 2007
The fourth annual Holiday Open House art sale and show opens tonight at Plumb Place with 15 artists displaying their works ranging from fiber and jewelry to glass pieces, paintings, photography and dolls.
The event, which raises fund for Plumb Place, includes a new event this year — a silent auction. Besides putting work into the silent auction, artists also donate pieces for Plumb Place’s annual spring auction, said event organizer Terry Maxwell. During the two-day show and sale, donations also are accepted for art scholarships at Emporia State University.
Faye Stevenson is a new artist to the show. Stevenson, who lives at Harveyville, is in the first class of the new engraving program offered at Emporia State University. She plans to graduate in May. Stevenson’s early engraving work was with jewelry, but she’s since branched out to knives and firearms. She’s a member of the Firearms Engravers Guild of America.
Stevenson said she plans to bring knives, bracelets and pendants to the show.
The Plumb Place show is one of two events put together by the loosely organized Art-ade group, Maxwell said. The second event they do every year is a show and sale at Toad Hollow daylily gardens
Artists participating in the Plumb Place show are Janet Brassart, fiber; Susan Fowler, sterling jewelry; Lisa & Cecil McKenzie, glass; Paula Hanlon, stained glass; Peggy Lyon, painting; Jerry Schrock, photography; Terry Maxwell, painting; Dave Edwards, ironwork; Faye Stevenson, engraving; Laurie Brown, stained glass; Geoff Creswell, drawing; Beth Thomas, sculpture dolls; Josh Finley, drawing; and Barb Say, fiber.
